Welcome to our latest vendor showcase…

… where we welcome the incredible Robert Hess to our site. We sat down with him for a chat about how he became Warloc and what inspires and motivates him in the world of 3D Art.

Hi Robert, Please tell us a little bit about yourself..

My name is Bob, I’m a DAZ Studio Iray 3D artist and specialize in life-like images, and renders with extraordinary details. I have been placing at the very top in monthly render challenges “Create Amazing 3D Art With Ease” I was also a 3D teacher for 3D female Art Club and club Sci-Fi training on Facebook. My work was also featured by Renderosity for my Asian Characters. I also create DAZ 3D Characters, my specialty is Asian Females. I love creating digital art that can help other artists visualize a story behind the art, art that captures the audience first sight. I also performed as a Promo Artist for Sympatico Studio Artists, CGbytes.com and rendererotica.

What was the initial thing/circumstance/event that led you to 3D art in the first place?

As a hobby I took up photography over the years and I love taking photos and learning how to manipulate the photos into something else, then I discovered Poser. This must have been about 7 plus years ago when I started working with 3D art and soon after Poser, I discovered DAZ and been using it since. 3D art became a passion of mine. Not a day passed where you wouldn’t find me at my computer watching and learning from great artists in the 3D world. For me, 3D art has opened a whole new world with unlimited adventures I can create from imagination and life experiences to share with others.

Was it just natural for you to move into creating content, or was there some kind of push or inspiration?

After my accomplishment as an Artist, I felt the need to start creating my own characters for this was another challenge in developing my skills and sharing my creations with others.

Where do you find your inspiration for both your products and art?

I always enjoyed the beauty of Art, and I loved fantasy art the most and I guess that is what inspired me to create my own art and also content

Can you tell us a little bit about your workflow?

The biggest challenge is creating the character morphs and making sure everything is working correctly,  after that I create the skin texture that will make the character look as realistic as I can.  If the skin looks great on my characters morphs, that is when I start completing the makeup options, eyes, shaping pre-sets, etc and packaging the product for sale.

Which are your favourite programs to create in?

I use Daz, Blender and photoshop. Why?  Creating a character involves a lot of fine tuning and the combination of these tools are very effective for me.

“Not a day passed where you wouldn’t find me at my computer watching and learning from great artists in the 3D world.”

What is your favourite piece/product that you have created, and why?

I believe that would be Masaki. I always enjoyed the Mulan movies and wanted to create my own version of her.

As someone who also creates artistic renders, do you have a couple of favourite products (outside of your own) that you would consider as go-to when creating? And why?

Most of my content is Asian Female and I have many favorite Asian characters I purchased over the years, but my go-to when creating is using reference photos of actual people to get the realism I’m looking for in my characters.

Do you have any advice for people who might be considering going into creating 3D content?

There is a strong learning curve when creating 3D content, so much to learn and even me, I still have much to learn. It takes a lot of passion and patience to create 3D content. But it’s the passion in your work that should outweigh all other things, it’s the artist in you that should push you forward, not the money or other things. Always do your best and learn new things, you will make many mistakes over time but that is what make you stronger and better in time.

What is your favourite thing about making 3D content?

I would say creating the actual character morph.

“Always do your best and learn new things, you will make many mistakes over time but that is what makes you stronger and better.”

Do you have any upcoming projects that you can share some info about? Or all they all top secret?

I have been working on other projects in collaboration with others but not at liberty to say what at this time.    As far as my own creations most likely more female characters and also some a couple male ones.

What is one thing that your 3D followers probably don’t know about you? (don’t worry, not looking for deep, dark secrets, lol)

I’m very much an adventurer, I love enjoying life and the challenges it has and of learning new things to me is endless journey. My adventures included flying as a Pilot/Flight Instructor, crop dusting, scuba diving and traveling. I was a director of IT (Information Technology) and now semi-retired. As a hobby I took up photography over the years and I love taking photos and learning how to manipulate the photos into something else.

Do you have an ultimate goal of where you’d like to take your 3D content or render work? Or are you already there?

I very much want and need greater knowledge when it comes to content creation, it’s a everyday learning thing for me.   Everyday life gets in the way and slows my ability to learn more as quickly as I like.

“When it comes to content creation, it’s a everyday learning thing for me”

Thank you so much for your time Bob, your story is fascinating for all of us who aspire to be content creators and artists using 3D assets. It only remains for us to show our artists just what your products can inspire them to create….
